Whose Birthday Is It?
Mine. It’s my birthday…tomorrow. In honor of that, I thought it might be fun to let you into my world for a little bit by sharing random facts about myself so hopefully you’ll get to know me a little better. It’ll be a bit arbitrary, as I’ll be sharing in no particular order.
On April 12, 1983, exactly a week after my second birthday, I got hit by a big dumpster truck and spent a month in the hospital. From what I was told, the doctors anticipated me not being able to walk very well and, due to my insides getting squished, were a little skeptical about my ability to have kids, along with a list of other issues I might face. The left side of my body had been completely run over. I’m a fighter, and obviously I started at a young age because I went on to take tap, ballet, and in high school, I ran in cross country and track. I also have four kids, produced in the stair-step fashion. :)
My day starts with coffee and sarcasm…well, the sarcasm lasts all day.
My favorite color is green but, it’s actually a tie with purple. If you recognize this character, then you’ll know what one of my favorite shows to binge watch is! This is Dwight Schrute from “The Office.” Other favorites include pasta (favorite food) and dogs (favorite animal.) In fact, I have three living with me. One is my birthday present, a pitbull named Ry. I think he’s a lab mix. He’s a shiny brown with white throat and chest. He came with the name Ryan but, I think that’s a dumb name for a dog. Great for people, not dogs! Since he’s three, he’s used to it but, I shortened it to Ry, and he does respond. Since day one, he’s constantly been by my side. He’s lived in shelters pretty much his whole life so he’s very happy to have a forever home. He’s a sweet boy and very protective. The other two dogs were already here; they’re my girls’ dogs. The dogs are brothers, Tukker and Koda. They are a mix of Husky, Australian shepherd, border collie, and wolf. They’re seven months old and smart…in their own ways. Tukker is black with white markings (the opposite of the cartoon dog, Bolt, but Tukker could be his real life counterpart! They look similar.) Koda looks like a real life version of Scooby Doo, especially when he wears his turquoise collar.
My Best Feature:
Ever since I can remember, I’ve gotten compliments on my smile.
Meet Beverly Goldberg of the TV show, “The Goldbergs.” When my kids told me I reminded them of her, I was offended. She is known to be smothering and an over-protective helicopter mom! Thankfully they clarified and said I was the “badass” version of her and would have their backs, no matter what, and if anyone messes with them, that person better watch out, ‘cause I’ll be coming for ‘em! So now, if things get a little rocky for them, I ask one question. “Do I need to go Beverly Goldberg?” The shirt says it all. I love my kids to pieces, but three-quarters of them are adults! Still, I enjoy playing games with them; card games or board games; binge watching shows or doing movie marathons…with plenty of snack, of course!
Some of my hobbies include singing, acting, and learning new things that I find interesting or studying topics from a new angle. I was in the choir in high school and I’ve been involved in community choirs and skits. As for studying and researching, I’ve already started writing and working on articles for a series I’ll be publishing next month! I just find information fascinating!
Random Things I Think Would Be Fun:
*Learn the sport of curling (pictured above) *Go skydiving *Scuba Diving *Being a pirate
Other Random Stuff
The last two-and-a-half years were beyond difficult. Sometimes, I wouldn’t mind getting a do-over. On the other hand, I did some major growing and BONUS: I’m divorced now! I’ve always been a bit of a loner because I value the quality of the people I let into my circle, rather than the quantity. To those I love, I am fiercely loyal and protective. I’m also brutally honest so if you don’t want the truth, don’t ask for my opinion. I’m a genuinely happy person and choose to look at the good in every situation. Like a lot of people, I don’t like creepy, crawly things but, I’m a strong, independent woman and I can kill my own spiders!
I do all my best work at night.
I miss watching “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”. The movie about him, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”, is really excellent. I highly recommend it! I also miss old school “Sesame Street.”
When asked to choose between coast or forest, I can never choose! I love them equally. And I really enjoy hiking, going on adventures, and exploring. One of my favorite spots is Bridal Veil Falls. Going hand in hand with exploring is antiquing. I just like old things that are seemingly forgotten, whether I happen upon them or find them buried in a shop. That’s why I enjoy exploring ghost towns, too. Before the wildfires a few years ago, my favorite ghost town to visit was Jawbone Flats. Along the three-mile hike to the ghost town, there were relics of the mining town it used to be, as well as leftovers of trains and other modes of transportation.
SURPRISE!! I bet you didn’t guess that one! Three Random Thoughts in My Head Right Now: 1. I’m tired! 2. I still haven’t showered today (Eww!!) 3. It’s late…am I still going to go to work? (I have the luxury of choosing)
You know how on Facebook, there’s the “show me the last picture you took on your phone….” post? Well, the last picture I took on my phone was boring but, I did find a random one from a January coast trip I took with my girls. We got to see the sunset on the beach! So, enjoy this random sunset picture I took.
My youngest daughter suggested going here for my birthday. We took the kids when they were younger. They were a bit obsessed with a show on the Disney Channel called “Gravity Falls”, loosely inspired by this location! My oldest daughter’s bff (Koda’s mom) has also never been so this will be my birthday destination.
This is an actual picture of a bridge in the tiny town where I live; it was part of an iconic scene from a movie (any guesses?). The view has changed, but the angle is the same. About a block after the bridge stops is my favorite bakery/coffee shop, ‘Randy’s’. I’m not a huge fan of sandwiches but, he bakes his own bread and it truly makes all the difference! All of the baked goods are phenomenal.
I thought of a couple more! I need a good cut and color for my hair. My tastes in everything — from books to movies to music and beyond — change with my mood at the time.
This is a good place to end. Yet, I have one last thing to say. My biggest pet peeve is when people preach kindness, but practically in the same breath belittle and demean others who have different viewpoints and opinions from them. So, please, heed your mother’s advice, “If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all!”
Have a blessed day!
